“Norito” Chants：Karind Obata "ryu-teki" flute：Khorey Deguchi
The people of old likened the tone of the "ryu-teki" flute to the roar of a dragon as it rises.
This tone was layered in synchronization with the "Norito," a Shinto ritual prayer performed by the Harima-Onmyoji.
And music was born.
Sounds of nature captured in the foothills of Nara and at the sea of Kumano--murmuring streams, the singing of insects and birds, the splash of waves on the shore--entwined with the music to broaden the ensemble.
Play it loud or play it soft, however it suits your pleasure.
Play it when you're happy, when you're sad. Play it to calm your mind, or to feel inspired. Play it while you sleep, or with a cup of tea.
It would please me greatly to have this music become a part of your daily life.
Beautiful language is an offering for gods.
Beautiful sound reaches to the Heaven.
Let’s bring to the Heaven the beautiful sound of the flute, sound of nature and resonance of words.
“The spirit of the language brings happiness to the country.” From the ancient days, this message has been handed down by generation to generation in Japan.
Just as beautiful notes are spun into a piece of music,
just as a computer program,
each sound, which is the spirit of god, is spun into names of gods, words and conversation.
The sound of prayer is responding with the sound of nature creating one rhythm together.
In Japan, Nature has been worshiped as gods from the ancient period.
And Norito chants are ancient music for the purpose of having a dialogue with gods.
Norito Chants in the Mai-shin(The Dance of Heart)
